Ubuntu 7.10 - fglrx driver - ATI Technologies Inc Radeon X1200 Series does not work out of the box

Bug Description
Model: Dell Latitude D531
Distro/Installer: ubuntu-
Issue #1: Video is not working out of the box (VGA=ATI Technologies Inc Radeon X1200 Series)
1) After running the installer, rebooted and could not get to GDM login.
2) In shell (ctrl-alt-F1):
$ sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
3) change driver in xorg.conf from "vesa" to "fglrx"
$ sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
4) Reboot, splash screen shows up, gdm is able to start

This is practically fixed in Hardy. The ati-driver supports your card, and you do not need to manually set up anything in order to use fglrx.. just let the driver manager to load fglrx.
