Go to a existing diagram.
Edit the the data range by right clicking.

That document appears to work for me, does it still crash for you if you use the sun-java6-jre package for java instead of whatever you are currently using?

Sorry I didn't notice that you were using Ubuntu 7.10, so this bug is probably actually fixed. Marking as Fix Released. If after upgrading to Ubuntu hardy you continue to have problems with this issue then please feel free to reopen this bug.
