Bug Description

when testing hackbench by using perf tool based on hardware performance events(cpu cycles) on Allwinner Nezha Board installed Ubuntu Server preinstalled image 23.04 , i found that there was no samples. The results are below.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo perf record -e cpu-cycles -F 1499 -g ./hackbench
sudo perf report --no-children -G > riscv hackbench.txtRunning in process mode with 10 groups using 40 file descriptors each (= 400 tasksEach sender will pass 100 messages of 100 bytesTime: 17.347
perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data perf record: Captured and wrote 0.043 MB perf.data Error:
The perf.data data has no samples!

The reason why there was no samples is that there is still OpenSBI 1.1 on Ubuntu Server preinstalled image 23.04. you can refer to the link : https://patchwork<email address hidden>/

can you help to fix this bug in the newest ubuntu images by updating OpenSBI version for RISC-V architecture.

yours sincerely!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2018558/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

WangYang, bug reports filed against the Ubuntu project and not against a specific package will seldom reach anyone that can help resolve your issue.

You said "can you help to fix this bug in the newest ubuntu images by updating OpenSBI version for RISC-V architecture." This implies that filing the bug against the opensbi package might alert someone that can help you. Better there than here.

Thank you for filing the bug.

We will be upgrading OpenSBI in the 23.10 cycle. Typically we take what comes from Debian. Debian currently has a freeze due to the scheduled Bookworm release scheduled for June.

Best regards

OpenSBI 1.2 is now in Mantic. We need to rebuild u-boot-nezha to use it.

U-boot-nezha 2022.10-1089-g528ae9bc6c-0ubuntu2 has been built with OpenSBI 1.2. So this bug should now be resolved.

Best regards
