Bug Description

On Vista, when tried importing library 40 small popup mixxx windows came up and then program crashed. Songs would not load properly - waveforms would not show up and song would not play - this was without importing library.

The popups are no doubt an error message of some kind, however it will not be possible to fix the problem if we don't know what any of those error messages are... so what did the pop-ups say?

You should be able to hit Ctrl+C to copy the text from one or two of them and paste it here.

If the error had something to do with libmad, I've already committed a workaround for it in SVN. There were qCritical() calls in the libmad code when it failed to parse an MP3, and that resulted in an ugly popup box on Windows. For some reason, that pop-up caused some thread to block and some timer loop ends up going crazy. I still haven't figured out why the library scanning goes crazy (there's only one timer in it, and it looks well-behaved to me), but I've changed the qCritical()s to qDebug()s since they weren't fatal anyways (no more popup = should mitigate this).

I can't read the error message on the popups b/c they're just outlines. The header is just "Mixxx." Vista then closes mixxx.

I know zilliah doesn't have Visual Studio; could you provide a binary so she can test the workaround?

Oh, I got a sample:
"""MAD: ERR reading mp3-file: "<C:/music/Sorted/Cabaret&that sort of thing/clowncore/edcox - Clowncore Gal Dem"
Read only 1539 bytes, but wanted 5000 bytes"""

and then 40 copies of "QObject::startTimer: timers cannot be started from another thread"
So.. yeah it sounds like the bug you already fixed.

I'm attaching the file that it is crashing on; its from http://www.myspace.com/edcoxlife4land so this is hardly hurting copyright (and the guy who made it throws freetek raves so I doubt he'll mind).

Ok, thanks for the example kousu. I can confirm that this is indeed the problem that I've committed a fix for, but it will require testing when the next beta is out.
I'm going to mark the bug as "Fix Committed" for now, and if you find that this bug still occurs in Beta 3 (whenever we get around to releasing it), please post here and we can reopen the bug.

Thanks again for your patience,
Albert
