Machine had previously been a 16.04 LTS, then do-release-upgrade to 18, then 20 and 3 weeks ago, 22.04 LTS.

No non-LTS versions have been installed, ever. Each do-release-upgrade has been around 1 year or so after initial release - i.e. April 2019, 2021, and now 2023.
