Bug Description

Both the Ubuntu nautilus-dropbox package and the upstream dropbox 2022.12.05 package produce installations under lunar that are only partially functional. Specifically, while the Files windows display the remote files on the Dropbox server, the menubar icon for dropbox no longer produces a drop down menu when clicked on.

Despite the drop down menu for the dropbox menubar icon being non-functional, the dropbox menu bar icon does display the status badges (blue check mark) after it checks or updates the upstream server.

Interestingly, a workaround seems to exist. The bug seems to be reliably suppressed by locking the screen after login. Once you unlock the screen, the Dropbox drop down menu from the menubar icon works as expected.

I tried the lock screen tip and it worked. The dropbox dropdown menu appeared. Interesting.

Interesting, I am experiencing the same problem, and locking/unlocking the desktop also does "resolve" it for me. Surprising workaround probably indicates a funny bug :)

So, I can't even do the workaround because I can't figure out how to lock my screen. There are no menu options for it. The screensaver doesn't lock the screen even though it is set to do so. And the command `xdg-screensaver lock` does nothing, not even an error message. Disclosure, I am using the proprietary Nvidia driver (525.105.17), for tasks that require CUDA.

Update:
I reinstalled a fresh copy of Ubuntu 23.04 and it solved the problem for me.

I have the same problem on 2 computers with Ubuntu 23.04. The latest installation was done a few days ago on a new computer with new disks. On both computers, the Dropbox icon in the top right is not clickable. I tried locking the screen and actually upon unlocking the drop-down menu opens and the menus are usable.
My computer doesn't have a video card, I use the one present in the CPU (intel 12700) and Ubuntu is using Wyland.

Same issue here. New machine, fresh install of current Ubuntu 23.04 & Dropbox v182.4.6427

Is this bug with Dropbox, or Ubuntu?

(I am currently using the workaround of pressing "Windows-L" or "Super-L" to lock the screen, and then unlocking the screen, then I can access dropbox properties)

same bug, with Fedora 38 (so it's not an Ubuntu problem) and Dropbox v 184.4.6543

I have the same issue in Ubuntu 23.10.

Locking and then unlocking the screen, as suggested in #4, fixes it.

no longer affects: dropbox-share
