Bug Description

I have an old Windows 98 Dell Dimension XPS T450 with a Pentium III, 256 MB ram and a brand new 160GB HD. I made an installation disk for Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy and it works fine. However, when I run the installer it will not work when asked to select a partition. The partition window goes blank and I cant go any further. I am a bit of a noob so if anyone knows how to fix or get around this please let me know. Thanks.

oh and I attached a screenshot of the bug in action.

using
initrd.gz and vmlinuz from
ubuntu/dists/intrepid/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/

with intrepid alternate CD, got the same issue (classical debian installer)

Same issue with interpid desktop live cd (x86-64), following this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromLinux

partman does not recognize any of my hard disk partitions.

Pablo, please do not assign bugs directly to the Installer Team. We already get notified of new bugs for installer components, so it's unnecessary.

actionj317, if you boot the install CD, select a language, press F6 to bring up the extra options menu, then hit escape to remove it, it will give you a string of options that you can pass to the installer. Can you add partman/filter_mounted=false to it and let me know if that causes your disks to appear on the partitioning page?

To verify that you've added that option correctly, in the live environment open a terminal and type the following:
echo "GET partman/filter_mounted" | debconf-communicate

It should say "false".

Thanks!

Since this report have a long time without activity, could you check (if is possible) in latest version included in Karmic if this issue is still happening? Thanks in advance.

Leo, Do you also have 256MB memory? If so, you will need to install directly, without going to the live desktop, or use the alternate installer.
