Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub2

Debian released another release for grub2

http://packages.debian.org/sid/grub2

 grub2 (1.96+20080228-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New CVS snapshot.
   * Split grub-probe into grub-common package. Make all flavours depend on it.
     (Closes: #241972)
   * Suggest multiboot-doc.
   * patches/01_grub_legacy_0_based_partitions.diff: New patch. Add a hack that
     tells grub-probe you want 0-based partition count
     (GRUB_LEGACY_0_BASED_PARTITIONS variable)
   * Stop depending on lsb-release (too heavy! we don't need python in base).
     Instead of assuming it's there, try calling it and otherwise just echo
     Debian.

Newer available in sid (unstable):

Does not seem to be available in i386 yet. Importance is critical though:

 grub2 (1.96+20080413-1) unstable; urgency=high

   * New CVS snapshot.
     - Provides 30_os-prober update-grub add-on. Thanks Fabian Greffrath.
       (Closes: #461442)
     - Improves robustness when handling LVM.
       (Closes: #474931, #474343)
   * patches/03_disable_floppy_support_in_util_biosdisk.diff: New. Does
     what its name says. (Closes: #475177)

   * control: Fix syntax error.

Well, u-u-s wasn't even subscribed, done that now. Just want to add my recommendation for the sync: At this point, grub2 is mostly used for testing, and is rapidly evolving upstream, so it makes sense to ship the most recent version. The latest fixes seems important enough.

Also note that the newest debian version is grub2-1.96+20080413-1.

I also noted that there are currently some Ubuntu changes, so someone has to make a merge or confirm if the changes can be dropped. Please unsubscribe u-u-s meanwhile, and sorry for the inconvenience.
