Bug Description

I use Ubuntu Server 22.04.2 LTS with latest patch level. The server ist used as a squid - proxy server. Squid version is 5.2-1ubuntu4.3 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squid/5.2-1ubuntu4.3
Even with this latest update squid is unfortunately not useable because it keeps crashing with these messages:

FATAL: check failed: opening()#012 exception location: tunnel.cc(1299) noteDestinationsEnd#012

The fatal error occurs every 15 to 30 Minutes. The squid process reloads but for example teams sessions which use the squid proxy break down.

With this fatal error ubuntu server is not useable.

Is it possible to adress this error in an forthcoming ubuntu server update?

All best
Hans

Hello and thank you for your report. You say "Even with this latest update", does this mean that squid always crashed for you when using Jammy? Did it work with previous Ubuntu releases? Can you point at a specific upgrade causing the regression?

In any case I doubt that "squid from Jammy always crashes" is the whole picture: the package is popular and we'd be getting many more bug reports. What may help us and you understand what's going on is a set of steps to reproduce the issue from a clean Jammy system. LXD containers may help:"

 lxc launch ubuntu:jammy
 lxc exec <name> bash
 ...

I'm marking this report as Incomplete for now.

Hello Paride,
I searched the "official" squid bugzilla-side and found this:
https://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5055#c5
This bug seems to be included in the recent squid version that comed with Ubuntu Server 22.04.2 LTS.
Therefor I assume that the fatal error is not connected with the usage of Ubuntu Server 22.04.2 LTS in general.
The problem may be the version of squid that is used in the distribution.

All best
