Bug Description
Yep, I am an idiot.
I just bought a $9 copy of an old Windows game ("Crimson Skies") and tried to run it under Wine. Installed OK, but when I tried to run it I ended up with my screen hung in about 640x480 and 24 point font.
I killed the Wine session and used preferences, screen resolution to reset things. I tried 1024x768 but only got about 2/3 of a screen. I was intrigued by the "Off" option so tried it.....
Black.
I waited see if it would revert after 20 seconds. It didn't.
CTRL-ALT-BackSpace and the login window worked fine, and then the screen died, as it probably should.
I started a terminal session and searched through all the "."directories and couldn't find anything obvious.
I started again and chose a "Gnome FailSafe" option and succeeded in getting my GUI back.
Could you please consider some sort of "are you sure" option to the "Off" setting. There may be somebody else out there just as foolish as I.
