If I leave it for a long time (5min~), the OS will freeze.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and trying to make Ubuntu better.

Could you please better describe how one could reproduce this bug? Also share which version of open-vm-tools are you using.

Once more info is provided we will revisit this bug.

I have run what little information is available so far past the VMware vmwgfx driver engineer.

This is not going to be an open-vm-tools problem.

It is not a problem with the vmwgfx SVGA driver. The vmwgfx driver is just reporting that the host has errored out:
  - either in VMware's host MKS code
  - more likely due to incorrect / mismatched video configuration.

We would need more information about the user's configuration as well as some log files from the host ang guest to determine what errored on the host.

Host OS release and version:
Hypervisor and version (ESXi, Workstation, Player, Fusion):

- vmware.log and mksSandbox.log from the guest VM directory on the host.
- sys.log from the guest after running "journalctl -b > sys.log"
- same sys.log from the host if Linux.

Thank you for answering.
Please let me know if there is any way to improve.

My environment is as follows.

HOST:
edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
OS build 19045.2546

Vmware:
VMware(R) Workstation 14 Player
14.1.8 build-14921873
Open-vm-tools
#vmware-toolbox-cmd -v
11.3.0.29534 (build-18090558)

Attached log.zip
There was no mksSandbox left.

The attached system log file doesn't seem to match the bug. There's no command buffer errors reported in it. We'd need the logs from the failing system. If ssh isn't setup then "journalctl -b -1" will return the logs from the previous boot.

Ideally the failing guest side log would come with a matching vmware.log file, for that the best thing to do is before starting the VM select "Settings" and in the "Options" tab click on the "Advanced" item and then in the "Gather debugging information:" option select "Full" and then start the vm, make it fail and sending us the logs from that should get us a lot further.
