Bug Description

Hi there!

I performed an update/upgrade on a system running Lubuntu 22.04 tonight, using the "Apply Full Upgrade" entry under "Preferences" in the start menu. I don't know what app this is specifically but I'm guessing it's "lubuntu-upgrader." The icon for the menu looks like the one for the notifier mentioned here...

https://manual.lubuntu.me/lts/4/4.4/Update-Notifier.html

https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/jammy/man1/lubuntu-upgrader.1.html

Among the available updates, there was an update for the SDDM package. At a point during the installation process, the updater stopped at 72% and was waiting for me to answer a question concerning the SDDM configuration file. On another system, when I used Synaptic to update/upgrade the packages, the question came up on the terminal (that one could use while watching the status of the updates) and was easily answerable. However, on this system, the question was not asked by the updater nor did any other terminal come up with the question in view, which was whether I wanted to use the package maintainer's configuration or to keep the one that was already in use. All it said was that it was waiting for the file. Nothing I did forced the updater to display the question. As a result, I was unable to answer the question and I had to shut the updater down, preventing the installation process for the rest of the packages. When I rebooted the system, I found out from Synaptic that there was a problem and I had to run "dpkg configure -a" or something like that. I brought up Sakura and ran the command and immediately was shown the message that the updater didn't show. I answered the question and the installation process continued until it was completed, praise and thanks to God! :-)

No crash occurred at any point when this was taking place.

I'm letting you guys know because someone who doesn't know much about Linux or how to troubleshoot issues will not know what's going on or how to resolve it, at least very easily. Perhaps you guys can create a fix for this, Lord willing. :-)

If you have any questions or need additional information, please let me know. :-)

Hey Aaron! Sorry for such a delay in getting back to you.

I remember this issue *very* *well*. It was a tough call (and I'll subscribe Erich on this) because our update notifier in 22.04 unfortunately didn't ship with debconf support.

So yeah, it could have been a bit racey. I really hope we still don't have this issue. If we do, please respond, because I'd like to know about it!

Thanks for your time.
