@fantonifabio can you prepare (and test) a backported package for this? And upload as well, if you have upload rights.

The backports team does not usually prepare backports, we only review/accept uploads (though occasionally we upload a backported package that someone has prepared).

@ddstreet thanks for reply
I don't have upload right in ubuntu, I prepared a branch in salsa git: https://salsa.debian.org/debian/memtest86plus/-/commits/ubuntu/jammy-backports
and a build in ppa https://launchpad.net/~fantonifabio/+archive/ubuntu/freeipmi-backports
I already tested 6.01-1 package (done with manual build) on my ubuntu notebook 2 week ago

@Fantu: please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Finding_a_Sponsor for the details regarding sponsorship.

I'm subscribing ~ubuntu-sponsors for now and see if somebody picks it up, or you might want to check with your usual ubuntu sponsor, if you have one.

I sponsored this to jammy; this is now waiting on a backports team member (other than me) to review.

For the reviewer, note that the latest version in lunar is 6.10-4, so this backport is slightly behind; but this backport request was opened when 6.10-2 was the latest version in lunar. Since the changes between 6.10-2 and 6.10-4 are very minor, and since lack of sponsorship was the cause of the delay (no fault of the backporter), I decided to sponsor as-is (we can always do a follow-on backport with a newer lunar version). However I'll also email the backport team ML as we might want to clarify this situation in the backport docs, specifically, if we have a hard requirement for the latest version in the 'backport from' release, or if we will accept backporting an older-than-latest version (especially in the case of delays in sponsoring and/or reviewing).

and of course it's up to the reviewer to decide if it's ok to accept this version backport or if this really should use the latest lunar version

@ddstreet thanks for sponsoring the upload, is there any news related to it?
today another "bug" requesting the memtest86+ 6 to Jammy was opened: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+/+bug/2012270
seems a thing enough requested

The only reason I'm going to reject this is that there's changes in -3 and -4 in Lunar now which update to match EFI spec.

Can you do a reupload / sponsor of -4 from Lunar to backports here for Jammy?

Attached are the -3 and -4 changelog from Lunar / Debian (because it was synced)

memtest86+ (6.10-4) unstable; urgency=medium

@teward yeah, i did notice that but (as i said in comment 7) the change does seem pretty minor and it's not really Fantu's fault that new versions went in upstream while he was waiting for a sponsor. But yeah, it would be better to use the latest version.

Fantu can you put a backported 6.10-4 build in your ppa and test it? I can sponsor it from your ppa once it's ready.

Thanks!

@ddstreet While I agree in principle, when something changes to adhere to EFI spec, that's a pretty significant change. And saves us having to do the approval *twice*. I don't disagree this isn't Fantu's fault, but it shouldn't be much more difficult for them to get -4 into their PPA and then us sponsor it up to -backports here (with our blessing and no additional review needed).

That is, if Fantu can put a backported 6.10-4 into the PPA and then you sponsor it to -backports ddstreet you can Just Do It with the approval.
