Bug Description

The even the version provided by Hardy (nxtvegp-2.7.6-2) is not supporting the German EPG-provider(s) any more. It should be upgraded to any version 2.8.x to work with Kernel newer than 2.6.16 again.

I don’t know why this package keeps that old.
It doesn’t work for kernel version >2.6.16 and it is still delivered?!?

Nextview 2.8.1 was released in 10. October 2008

Why isn it updated since than?

Upstream hasn't had a stable release in over 2 yrs and this has been removed from Debian. I filed Bug #712927 to remove this from Ubuntu as well. There is a development release that's pretty recent, but the prerelease before that was almost 2.5 yrs prior. Someone would need to step forward to take care of this package (updates and bug fixes) in Ubuntu (or Debian again) for it to remain.

As for the stable releases, please see the Stable Release update process regarding getting fixes into stable releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
We would need a minimal patch that would fix this issue as there were many changes between 2.7.6 and 2.8.1.
