Bug Description

o HP LaserJet 1020 plugged into USB port

o system recognizes printer and installs/sets-up for printer

o no default printer is setup

o .ps and .pdf files sent to printer are not printed, but are removed from print queue after
the system thinks they have printed

o using kubuntu 8.04 alpha6 and updates applied before printer setup

I am willing to reinstall system from scratch to reproduce again, if details needed for
debugging purposes.

After setting up as default printer, here is the output from "lpstat -t"

adams@hp-slimline-alpha6:~$ lpstat -t
scheduler is running

adams@hp-slimline-alpha6:~/ngspice_tutorial_new$ cat /etc/lsb-release

I hope this helps and I am looking forward to April release of 8.04

Thanks in advance,

Attached is typescript file for 'script' command. It is ugly, but I
think you can see what is going on.

This was done with March 10, 2008 daily-build of Hardy Heron 8.04
alpha-6. System is an HP Slimline dual AMD 64 based system.

Thanks,

Chuck

What happens when you run this command?

Pascal,

Here is what I did:

wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.om/foo2zjs.tar.gz

tar xvf foo2zjs.tar.gz

cd foo2zjs

make

./getweb 1020

sudo make install

sudo make install-hotplug

sudo make cups

sudo lpadmin -d HP_LaserJet_1020

And this made everything work. I went to the web page above
to download the package as they say to not use the package
that you distribute. Guess they don't trust you.

How about an install script with the above to go and get the
1020 driver. The system detected the printer and did everything
else.....

I'll file a bug report to have libc6-dev installed automatically
with the system as gcc is installed, but without the headers it
is useless. I'd have thought the development group would jump
up and down about this oversite.... :-)

ciao dude,

Hi,
I noticed this bug too and besides the proposed solution to manually download the proprietary firmware, you could also use the hp-setup application and it does everything automatically.
