Clicking on Edit bookmark from the Bookmark menu does not launch keditbookmark in KDE 3.
The same works fine inside KDE4.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

 At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
 Thanks!

OK, more detailed report.
I start konqueror-kde4 from KDE3.5 desktop environment with /usr/lib/kde4/bin/konqueror
I click on Bookmarks menu > Edit bookmarks
Nothing happens! it should have opened the application keditbookmarks

this is the output from terminal:

When doing the same steps in KDE 4.0.2 desktop environment everything works fine.

Thank you, this helps a lot.

Currently I cannot confirm because I don`t have KDE3 installed. But I will test again in a few days.
Could you please check if the file "/usr/lib/kde4/bin/keditbookmarks" is there for you and what happens when you execute this programm?

And the exact package version for konqueror-kde4 and konqueror (i.e. with dpkg -l konqueror) and the version of your ubuntu?

I assume that this is a conflict between KDE3 and KDE4 Variables. The keditbookmarks for KDE3 is named exactly the same, but is located in the PATH, so when konqueror-kde4 tries to execute it only finds the keditbookmarks for kde3.

Thats for now... I will test and probably confirm, when I have my laptop back.

thank you for your interest

The file /usr/lib/kde4/bin/keditbookmarks is present,
and when executing it from terminal everything is fine.

The version I'm using are
konqueror 4:3.5.8-2ubuntu3~gutsy1~ppa1
konqueror-kde4 4:4.0.2-0ubuntu1~gutsy1~ppa1
and my ubuntu is 7.10

The issue fairly easy to explain. Konqueror-kde4 doesn't launch keditbookmarks with it's complete path, but rather just calls the application, which causes it to start the KDE 3 version, which of course doesn't understand the passed option (Unknown option '--dbusObjectName').
However... I can't think of an easy solution, maybe patching konqueror would be the way to go.

This probably won't be fixed for the KDE4 packages in Hardy. I'd recommend upgrading to a newer version of Kubuntu, since KDE 4.0.x is really old and buggy.
