The latest version in hardy:
Pakket libmtp7

    * hardy (libs): Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) library
      0.2.5-1ubuntu1: amd64 i386 powerpc

The version in gutsy is even older:
Pakket libmtp6

    * gutsy (libs): Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) library
      0.2.1-0ubuntu3: amd64 i386 powerpc

This can be considered as confirmed, since it contains enough information. I really think libraries like this should be updated regularly on all releases still supported to improve support for devices. The lack of support for such things is something that keeps people at Windows.

Could you provide a diff between the Debian version and yours?

Just noticed some engrish on the changelog entry.
Can you take care of it Daniel?
Here goes the debian<->ubuntu debdiff, changelog entry corrected.
Thanks.

I'll ask for a sync... if the maintainer change is the only thing we do (the diff looks like it), we can sync instead.

I thought all main packages had to have the maintainer field changed.
Request a sync otherwise.
Thanks

Have all the ubuntu changes been put into Debian?

    - Remove hotplug references
    - Remove bashism in debian/rules to rename udev files.
    - Install libmtp7.rules

Yes, they just solved the bashism with a differente expression.
It's suitable for a sync. Only diff is the maintainer field munging.
Thanks
