Bug Description

My system has been running smoothly until Kernel 5.15.0-50 (and 5.15.0-52) was installed. Now boot and shutdown take several minutes. I have an Nvidia Gforce 1050 and Nvidia driver 515. Boot and shutdown run witout delay with the Nouveau and Nvidia 390 drivers but the OpenCl is unavailable

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1995021/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thanks. It does seem to be a crash in the Nvidia driver. Maybe as a workaround try:

 * Kernel parameter "nosplash"

 * Nvidia-520 instead.

Although the logs also mention "kernel: *BAD*gran_size" so I'm wondering if that means there is faulty RAM, which would easily explain the crashes.

Thanks a lot for trying to help. Here are my findings so far:
1. The latest kernel working without issues is version 5.15.0.48. The versions
5.15.0.50, 5.15.0.52 and 5.15.0.53 are all causing the minutes long boot and shutdown in combination with the Nvidia drivers 470, 510, 515 and 520. Boot and shutdown are also without issues for all Kernels in combination with the Nouveau driver and Nvidia driver 390. However, OpenCl is not available with those two drivers. I need OpenCl for image editing with darktable
2. I ran memtest to verify the state of the RAM. Test passed without errors
3. I tried Kernel parameter "nosplash". It didn't make any difference
4. For the moment I stick with Kernel 5.15.0.48 and Nvidia driver 515

I confirm that the bug has been fixed. I just received an updated Nvidia driver, version 525. Once installed my system is now back to normal, i.e. smooth boot and shutdown. Thanks a lot.
