Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager-core

When upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 (development version) with "upgrade-manager -d" on a normal Ubuntu install (ie., not the server edition) it crashed with an AttributeErroor some seconds after printing the line "Calculating the changes".

Thanks for your bugreport.

This should be fixed in my bzr branch. If you could verfiy the fix when I upload 0.87.11 that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I believe this bug is back in upgrading from Hardy 8.04 to Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 (first time I have tried updating to Intrepid from Hardy). I am experiencing this exact same bug in running:

sudo update-manager -d

I am running 8.04 Final:
craig@aloe:~/Desktop$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Codename: hardy

craig@aloe:~/Desktop$ uname -a
Linux aloe 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

It begins setting new software channels in the GUI interface then the pop-up appears...

See attached file for complete system information and other information that might be of use:
lshw info then main.log from /var/log/dist-upgrade then apt.log from /var/log/distupgrade

(NOTE: main.log and apt.log from the dist-upgrade logs were identical after multiple attempts at running upgrade-manager -d [I compared using diff]).

Thanks,

@xq:
The problem you experiencing is something different from the bugreport here. The log say:
...
2008-07-13 23:26:19,081 DEBUG Marking 'ubuntu-desktop' for upgrade
2008-07-13 23:26:19,369 DEBUG The package 'nvidia-glx-new' is marked for removal but it's in the removal blacklist
...
So it seems like your nvidia driver gets removed and this is why it refuses to continue.
