Bug Description

3.9, Chrome

If you modify the 'preferred library' in Staff Catalog > Catalog Preferences, it will automatically change the 'preferred library' in Administration > Workstation.

If you modify the 'preferred library' in Administration > Workstation, it will NOT change the preferred library in Staff Catalog > Catalog Preferences.

It does work correctly in 3.7.1 (preferred library changes at either location regardless of which was changed first).

I attempted to use the Empty Cache/Hard Reload - didn't work. I thought it worked by changing the 'preferred library' from Administration > Workstation, going to the home/portal page, then to Advanced Catalog > Catalog Preferences, but I don't think it happens each time.

I expect the preferred library to match between Staff Catalog > Catalog Preferences and Workstation settings regardless of which was modified first.

Occurs in 3.10 as well, and also affects the Default Library. I also tested deleting values from Search Preferences to see if the subsequent values input in Workstation > Administration would carry over, but they didn't. In this case, though, clearing cache did reset to the Workstation > Administration values.

I tested another scenario on a new workstation where the Default and Preferred had not been set in either place. If I clicked on Search Preferences first but did not input any values, and then made changes in Workstation > Administration, the changes would not carry through, so in this case, it may appear to the user that there is a bug with Workstation > Administration settings. Search Preferences automatically update as soon as you open the page so there's not a way to avoid saving the null values in this scenario.

Do we want to maintain the functionality in two places or is the solution to retire the settings from workstation administration entirely and just have them set from within the staff catalogue?

(From a training and documenting standpoint it would be easier if they were just in one place.)

IMO, it should just be set in the staff catalog preferences and not in the workstation administration preferences, but that may just be the way I work.

I agree with Jennifer and Terran. Having the settings in a place that makes the most sense (search preferences in the staff catalog) is the preferred option.

Any way to streamline documentation and training gets a '++' from me!

I agree Jennifer, Terran and Britta. One place is best and search preferences in the staff catalog makes the most sense.
