gnome-network-displays can't connect to Roku 3

When I attempt to use gnome-network-displays to cast to a Roku 3 (model 4230X, software version 11.5.0) it says it's connecting for a while and then just says "Error" with no further explanation.

TBH I am not sure this package is ready for prime time yet if it can't connect out-of-the-box to common Roku devices.

It wont connect to my Samsung TV or my Surface Pro X either.
