Bug Description

I am using Hardy, and want to try to my new Konica-Minolta magicolor 2550 printer. It was correctly recognized when attaching it on the USB port, but instead of the suggested driver, I used the PPD that can be downloaded from the manufacturers website.

The test page prints perfectly. A PDF (rather big) also prints perfectly from evince, and also text from gedit prints.

However, when I want to print an image from The Gimp, I get the printer's generic status reporting page (the one it also printed when I switched it on the very first time).

When I try to print from eog, I get an "Error Status" page. It shows Release versions of the Firmware, and then

Error name: limitcheck
Offending operator: array
Error info string: array length too large
VM Remaining: 4228592

and then Operand Stack, Execution Stack and Dictionary Stack (those don't look so interesting I think), and Program Continuation (which starts with "dup /ImData_7_0 exch def" and the binary stuff which looks like the image to me).

When I try to print from Firefox (version 3, the beta that's in Hardy), I get another Error Status page, this time with

Error name: configurationerror
Offending operator: setpagedevice
Error info string: PageSize
VM Remaining: 3666354

Program Continuation is

%%EndSetup
%% Page: 1 1
%%PageBoundingBox: 0 0 0 0
%%BeginPageSetup
%%PageOrientation: Portrait
pdfStartPage
0.0000 0.0000 scale

I'm attaching the output of /tmp/printingbuginfo.

Pascal, I hope it's okay to assign it to you - I see you handle most of the printing bugs here.

When I try to print from gthumb, the job looks like going out, but nothing happens (well, the printer says "Working..." for a while, the goes to "Ready").

/var/log/cups/access_log shows:

FWIW, the suggested driver (for a magicolor 2530DL) doesn't correctly print a test page, just a few black characters in the first line of a page.

I found that I can print smaller images (scaled down from a photo taken by a 10 MPixel camera to 800x600) with gthumb. So maybe it's a "doesn't print big jobs" bug. Maybe even the one in bug 44989.

No idea, probably some problem with the PPD file.

Okay, for the sake of anyone looking at this bug, the "cupstestppd" utility revealed some errors in the PPD file from Konica-Minolta. I'm going to look further.

If anyone is reading along, here is what I did so far (the test is printing a big JPEG image):
I updated the firmware to 1.1.28 (by using Windows), to no avail.
I checked and tried the PPD file meant for Windows XP, no big difference to the Linux version.
I also fixed the errors in the PPD file, still no change.
I tried the PPD file meant for OpenOffice, same behaviour.
I printed with "lp -d printer file.jpg" to see if it was bug 114017, but the image came out successfully, just spread over a lot of pages (I am scaling it to just 1 page in gthumb).

Assigning to the Ubuntu Printing Team, hope that's appropriate. Suggestions against which package (if any) to file and how to proceed further would be very welcome. Thanks.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

Actually, no, I can print just fine now in 8.10. Thanks for the heads up. (I just don't know how to properly close this bug now.)
