A related question: why does mpiCC specify i386-linux-g++ anyway? Why
don't you just configure it to simply g++, allowing it to use by default
the system's default gcc?

Subject: there is no i386-linux-g++

Package: lam4-dev
Version: 7.1.1-3.1
Severity: grave

mpiCC (and mpicc) no longer works, complaining:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The LAM/MPI wrapper compiler was unable to find the specified compiler
i386-linux-g++ in your PATH.

Note that this compiler was either specified at configure time or in
one of many possible environment variables. Please see the man page
for the LAM wrapper compilers for more information.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it's because gcc supplies i486-linux-g++ not i386-linux-g++.
mpiCC was working before the NMU 7.1.1-3.1 was made, but there have also
been gcc updates in the last week. I think Debian's ia32 gcc now defaults to
i486 not i386.

I'm not sure if the change is in the lam NMU or in the new gcc versions, but
I hope it will be easy for to fix.
