Many people are mistakenly subscribing to launchpad-users@

Bug Description

Recently many people have posted to launchpad-users@, in broken English, asking to be unsubscribed. This suggests that when they're subscribing they're unaware of the consequences.

We could analyze the lists.ubuntu.com referer logs to find out where these people came from when they subscribed, then fix the problem.

(See also bug 196882, about making it more obvious how to unsubscribe.)

and for ppl that dont even read english?
I think that that is the biggest problem.
ShipIt and lists.U.C/lists.Canonical.C should all have multi-language interfaces.

BTW, we're using first-post moderation for launchpad-users and it's worked quite well to catch first posters that are at the wrong place. This may or may not make this bug irrelevant.

Hey,

Better yet: why am I getting notifications from this bug? I can't see any association I have with it...

At the end of the mail it should say something like this:

> You received this bug notification because you are a member of Launchpad
> Bug Contacts, which is subscribed to Launchpad itself.

What does it say in the notification you got?

Bjorn, Chris W's notification happened because Bruce subscribed l-b-t to this bug. It's since been unsubscribed and I've added a contact address to l-b-t to avoid this ever being a problem again.
