8.5: avatar dropdown menu error

Bug Description

When clicking on the avatar dropdown menu using Tcl/Tk 8.5.1, I get this error:

can't read "popdown": no such variable

I was experimenting with this code since the Mac handles this code differently on 8.5. I wasn't tested it on non macs. There are probably more issues with this code. It doesn't work optimal on Mac but it didn't work well on 8.4 either.
