Bug Description

I performed a dist-upgrade to Hardy Heron and I found that in addition to other problems I was having thunderbird would not start. When I run thunderbird I get the following error:

> thunderbird
cd: 128: can't cd to ../lib/thunderbird
/usr/X11R6/bin/thunderbird:183: /usr/X11R6/bin/run-mozilla.sh: not found

upon closer examination it looks like the thunderbird link located in /usr/X11R6/bin was trying to run the thunderbird script in
/usr/X11R6/lib/thunderbird which doesn't exist. The script is now located in /usr/lib/thunderbird. I removed the symlink in
/usr/X11R6/bin/thunderbird and replaced it with the following:

ln -s /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird thunderbird and now everything works fine again.

Thanks for submitting this report.

I cannot reproduce this problem. In fact, I found that the thunderbird package as described version does not install any files into /usr/X11R6.

Could you please describe how thunderbird got first installed?
Could you please paste in the output of "dpkg-query -L thunderbird"

Thanks

I looked through the listing from the dpkg-query command and I didn't see anything in /usr/X11R6 either. This makes me think that there was an incomplete clean-up of a previous version. I have never installed thunderbird on this system using any other method other then apt-get. I did a distr-upgrade to Hardy Heron. Because of some earlier issues unrelated to this that I could not resolve, the installation of gutsy was fresh and not upgraded from feisty.

I have no idea where the original symlink came from, any thoughts would be appreciated. I have included a text file containing the dpkg-query output.

btw, should /usr/bin/thunderbird be a symlink or is it a stand-alone script? I need to fix this so it is consistent with a proper Hardy installation.

Thanks for the help!

not sure where the other problem may have come from. Any ideas or guidance would be apprecaited. In the meantime I moved /usr/bin/thunderbird out of the way, then ran "apt-get install --reinstall thunderbird" to have it reinstall everything. I still had the last .deb so that went well. Afterwards I checked again and this time the symlink /usr/bin/thunderbird points to ../lib/thunderbird/thunderbird as it is supposed to.

Interested in any feedback you might have on the issue though. Thanks again!

If you had a .deb file, it does not seem you installed thunderbird from another source than ubuntu. Where did you get the .deb from ?

I would like to close this report if that is ok.

CORRECTION:

If you had a .deb file, it seems you installed thunderbird from another source than ubuntu repositories. Where did you get the .deb from ?

Go ahead and close this report. Not sure how this was installed on the machine. It came down with one of the recent updates, because I was having problems after I reinstalled Hardy after the libc issue. Anyway, since I have no further information and it doesn't seem like any more will be forthcoming please feel free to close this one.

Thanks for the feedback
