Bug Description

Downloaded and burned DVD of ubuntu-mate-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso, dated 2022-04-19 10:21.

Got two boot kernel messages:
[FAILED] Failed to start Snap Daemon Generate color profiles...
[FAILED] Failed to start Ubuntu live CD installer.

Screen went blank for 10 minutes or so. Followed by error dialog:
Error
The panel encountered a problem while loading "BriskMenuFactory::BriskMenu"
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?
Don't Delete Delete

No difference regardless of which option is selected.

The Ubuntu MATE desktop shows (with stylized jellyfish), but there are no top line selectable options. No MENU, not anything. Cannot run Ubuntu 22.04 as a live system. Totally useless. Never got the panel asking me to Try Ubuntu or Install Ubuntu.

First machine is a DIY system with ASRock Z97 Extreme6, four-core Intel, 16GB memory.
Second machine is a older HP workstation xw6200, 2009 vintage HP motherboard, 2GB memory.

Get the same errors on both systems. Problem not machine specific.

BTW, downloaded iso DVD of Ubuntu 20.04.4 MATE works just fine, no problems. 21.10 has same problems as 22.04.

Should I have downloaded something else for 22.04?

First of all you have to check ISO integrity, see https://ubuntu-mate.org/faq/verify-download-quick/ .
If it is corrupted then download it again and write to DVD or to another USB-flash again.
It maybe also useful if you name your graphics adapters for both machines. Did you tried to run installation in safe graphics mode?

This bug looks more like support request. Next time use https://ubuntu-mate.community/ for such things.

Downloaded the checksums and signatures (and the public key). ISO verifies OK.

Burned two copies to DVDs. Both fail identically.

Graphics Adapters:
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 has two graphics adapters, one onboard, one in a PCI slot.
The onboard one shows up in lspci (when booted from a 20.04.4 live ISO) as:
00:02.2 VGA compatible controller. Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics (rev 06)
The second one (in the PCI slot) shows up in lspci as:
01:00.0 VGA Compatible Controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 LE] (rev a1)
This second graphics adapter is not in use (yet). No monitor is plugged into it. I installed it in anticipation of running something that would use a second monitor.

The HP xw6200 workstation has one graphics adapter and shows up in lspci as:
40:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44 [Quadro NVS 285] (rev a1)

I booted the 22.04 ISO on the ASRock machine in Safe Graphics Mode. Received identical errors, eventually. Still cannot do anything with it.

Is there any other information I can provide?
