Bug Description

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga with Ubuntu 22.04 and a dock for it. If the laptop is in the dock and I plug a monitor into the display port gnome shell freezes. When this happens I can still go to other ttys. This exact setup used to work for Ubuntu 20.04 so I assume it must be connected to wayland somehow.

Thanks for the bug report. Next time a freeze happens please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here.

5. Also check for crashes by following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

6. Maybe also subscribe to bug 1970495.

It's certainly possible that if gnome-shell is expecting a working monitor then such kernel/hardware/dock/firmware bugs might make it appear to freeze, as it waits forever.
