Bug Description

Arrow keys and the block of 6 keys above them (ins, home, pgup, pgdown, delete, end) don't work after upgrade from Kubuntu gutsy to hardy. They seem to be mapped to other keys, as PgUp gives me a / character and PgDown gives me a context menu. The other ones don't do anything at all.

Using a standard 104 key Us-Int keyboard (Genius Slimstar). Never had any problems on any Kubuntu version, using them since Hoary. Xkbmap has the right keyboard layout configured, I checked that. Xorg.0.log attached. Keyboard works fine outside X.

Does this happen with the keys of the numeric pad? Is num lock on? What happens when you change num lock?

Thanks

It happens with the arrow keys themselves. The numeric pad is acting fine. When I turn off NumLock the numeric pad functions as it should as well, so it can take over the task of the non working keys (eg 1 becoming End and 6 becoming right arrow). It doesn't have any effect on the arrow- and navi-keys themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg.

I am reassigning this to kdebase as there is nothing misconfigured in your xorg.conf file and believe it must be something with the desktop environment.

Strangely, when I removed the USB to PS/2 adapter and connected the keyboard to USB the problem was solved. So the problem lies either with the PS/2 port or converter or with the communication with the PS/2 port... The former possibility sound more likely even if still a bit strange. It would mean that there's no bug, just a hardware malfunction on my system.

Ok.. I wrote about the removal of the USB to PS/2 converter just 10 minutes ago, but the problem simply came back again. I'm puzzled, how can the problem be solved by such an action and then just come back without any obvious reason at all?

Same problem with a macbook pro. It worked perfectly with previous Ubuntu version. Now, depending on my keyboard layout, arrow keys don't work anymore, nor do home, end, Page Up, Page down.

If I keep us layout it works fine, but if I switch to another (ch for me), those keys don't work anymore. Page Down is interpreted as a right mouse click... I tried all possible keyboard layout, but no way to fix it.

My xorg.conf keyboard section:

Section "InputDevice"
  Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
  Option "CoreKeyboard"
  Option "XKbRules" "xorg"
  Option "XkbLayout" "ch"
  Option "XkbVariant" "mac"
  Driver "kbd"
  Option "XkbModel" "macintosh"
EndSection

Same problem with a "Logitech S 510".
With the "driver kbd", does nothing function, with "driver evdev" and differently „*Rules" only like of "j-b-m" described.

Should be fixed in intrepid. Reopen if the same happens on alpha4 (yet unreleased) or recent daily livecd.
