Bug Description

System boots OK from USB install and shows the screen in 4k on my iiyama monitor.

But after installation it just hangs with a cursor at the top left of the screen.
So after editing grub with "nomodeset" it then boots with this error (no UMS support in Radeon module) then boots into the desktop at a fixed 1024x768..

It sounds like "nomodeset" is actually causing the newest error:

no UMS support in Radeon module

That's expected with nomodeset and probably not a bug. So we should instead find out why you had a hang with only a cursor at the top left of the screen.

Please:

 1. Remove "nomodeset".

 2. Reboot (expecting it to fail).

 3. Reboot again with "nomodeset" and run:

    journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

 4. Attach the resulting text file here.
