No carat when composing in gmail in hardy

In current firefox-3.0 in hardy, for the last few days, there is no edit carat when composing a mail in gmail. This is extremely annoying as it makes it impossible to tell where text will appear when typed. The carat works fine when typing this message into launchpad though, so seems to be specific to gmail

Worked fine a week ago, so recent updates seem to have broken something.

I should add that it 'sometimes' works. Haven't nailed down why it works sometimes and not others.

I have no problem using gmail. If someone else could try....

Aha. It works fine when composing a new email, but not when composing a reply.

So to duplicate, just hit reply to a message and start typing -- no carat.

Aha Number 2. Did some more testing. If I choose View -> Zoom -> Reset, all is well.

If I then choose replay and zoom out by holding ctrl and moving the mouse wheel one click toward me, carat disappears.

So workaround is just to make sure default zoom level is being used in gmail.

Seems to be fixed in current intrepid. At least I can no longer duplicate at any zoom level.
