Bug Description

My laptop with an i7 10750H CPU and NVIDIA 2070 MaxQ GPU undergoes overheating often. I checked the CPU usage and it is gnome-shell over using the memory. it seems to use about 1.5GB of RAM, which is very suspicious.

Thanks for the bug report.

Firstly, please paste output from either 'ps' or 'top' here showing exactly which number you mean.

Secondly, please try:

  gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-trash false

and then log in again (from bug 1876641).

Finally, if you can then please install Ubuntu 20.04 instead:

  https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

It is newer and gets fixes sooner than 18.04 does.
