Bug Description

Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
Package:
gwenview:
  Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I use of gwenview to import .jpg images from camera, including creation of folder in my ~/Documents to contain the images. After import, I use gwenview to view images. When I rotate an image, and then try to save it, gwenview says that access is denied: this is new behavior, within the last few updates, as I have never seen this error before.

I look at the Permissions to the images' folder in Dolphin. I see Owner & Group "Can View & Modify Content" and Others "Can View Content". I change permissions for Others to "Can View & Modify Content", check the box "Apply changes to all subfolders and their contents", and click "OK". I verify at the command line that permissions are set to -rw-rw-rw- for all images.

I close and reopen gwenview to these same images. Now when I try to rotate and save, I do not receive an 'access' error message, but ONLY SOME of the images are saved. If I close and reopen gwenview, I can (usually) reliably save the first image I rotate, but then it may likely fail on the next altered images. Rotated images revert to their original positions. It does not matter if I rotate the images in full view or thumbnail view.

I know it's difficult to troubleshoot intermittent problems. I've tried to find a pattern in what is saved and what is not saved, but the only detail I can provide is that closing and reopening gwenview allows me to (most of the time) save the first image I rotate.

I frequently use gwenview and this is a new issue (within the last few months of updates). I found a similar bug from 2013: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gwenview/+bug/1113410

Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) reached end-of-standard-support on May 31, 2023.

I'm setting the status of this bug to 'Incomplete' as it's not seen any activity for some time. If this is still an issue when using a currently maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know which one(s) otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Changed in gwenview (Ubuntu):
