Thanks for the bug report.

For the moment this sounds like a bug in KDE/Plasma, but in case it's a deeper issue please also attach a video of the screen while the bug is happening.

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → kwin (Ubuntu)
Changed in kwin (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
Changed in plasma-desktop (Ubuntu):

Please also try an official Ubuntu kernel version instead of 5.16.12-051612-generic.

Oh! I see the problem in XorgLog.txt and XorgLogOld.txt. You're using the old 'intel' driver so that makes it bug 1867668. Please uninstall it by:

  sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-video-intel

an official Ubuntu kernel version (did your mean 5.4.0-42-generic ?) i have another problem - no sound i must update kernel to version 5.8 or newer for the device to work properly.
my probe:
https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=74bc866ab2

about "old 'intel' driver": I tried both old 'intel' and new 'i915' - the same problem

The new Xorg driver is called 'modesetting': /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so

After you have uninstalled the 'intel' driver, if you still have graphics problems then please open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

I was not very accurate... in fact you are right the flickering is in the old driver 'intel'
i set i915
Section "Device"

        Identifier "Card0"
# Driver "i915"
        BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
# Identifier "Intel Graphics"
        Driver "i915"
# Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" # didn't work
# Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
        Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
# Option "TearFree" "true"
# Option "no_accel" "no"
# Option "RenderAccel" "on"
# Option "Ignore" "true"
EndSection

and I solved one problem and bought another: artifacts on scrolling pages (pixel shifting)

I add options:

        Option "TearFree" "true"
        Option "TripleBuffer" "true"

artifacts remained, but they became smaller and not so annoying. I would say half measure.

I try it after remove the driver the number of defects increased (artifacts disappeared slowly)

You're confusing your kernel graphics driver for the Xorg graphics driver. They're not the same thing and you need both:

 * Kernel graphics driver = i915 (there is no other option and if you disable it then everything will break)
 * Xorg graphics driver = modesetting or intel

Once you have your system in a proper state with:

 * Kernel graphics driver = i915
 * Xorg graphics driver = modesetting

then please open new bugs for any remaining issues.
