The jammy archive currently incl. binutils 2.37:
 binutils | 2.37.90.20220126-0ubuntu1 | jammy | s390x
with that I think I can close this ticket as Fix Released.
(I just need more details on the gdb version or patches at LP#1959407.)

After the announcement support for the official machine name z16 has been added to binutils. Please consider picking up the following patch from 2.37 branch:

IBM zSystems: Add support for z16 as CPU name.

So far z16 was identified as arch14. After the machine has been
announced we can now add the real name.

Since this LP bug is already closed as 'Fix Released', I'm afraid to say that we need a separate LP bug on this cherry-pick.

22.04 is already past beta, hence these (minor) changes need to be added post-GA as SRU, which should be possible, since this can be considered as new 'hardware enablement'.

(And btw. binutils 2.3.8 made it into jammy:
binutils | 2.38-3ubuntu1 | jammy )
