Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic

- Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 5

Latest updates as of 1400 EST, 26 Feb 08.

After updating to the latest kernel (2.6.24-10-generic), my "nvidia" driver is gone, and compiz is no longer working (as well as other composite-dependent applications, such as avant-window-navigator).

I had a problem upgrading "linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic", as there was no version found in the repositories.

Is it possible that the kernel was made available while the restricted modules were not? I'm just assuming here, because I'm not able to install that package, while booting to a previous kernel version, I have the package installed. Also, my system cannot use the "nvidia" driver, even though "nvidia-glx-new" is installed.

Please let me know in any way if I can help.

Yes, unfortunately the restricted modules package failed to build, so you'll have to wait until the latest upload is built.

Had the same problem.
And so, as you said, I also have to wait.
But: when will the latest upload be?

While you're waiting, use an older kernel.

I got bitten by this too, but using an older kernel is fine as a temporary workaround.

I know. I know. Be doing just that.
The older kernel works just fine.
And while we are at it: I had problems with Gutsy's (inlog) screens.
This all seems to have been fixed in Hardy. I hardly can wait for the final release.
I know. I know: be patient.

Good work all you folks!

I'm kinda new to Ubuntu so these are dumb questions. How long does it usually take for these types of changes to propagate to us.archive.ubuntu.com? Also if I wanted to fix this myself locally how would I do that? Thanks.

James, as can be seen, the resolution is fix committed. Which means its gonna take time. Till we don't get fix released, we can't say anything.
