Bug Description
Kubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
Related to klauncher and dcopserver
After installing today's updates (26 February 2008 -- language translation updates), logging in to the KDE desktop is no longer possible. It gets to "Initializing system services", and then returns to the login screen.
Here is a brief summary of events:
- Installed language translation updates (not sure of exact package names, also not sure how to obtain this information)
- Shortly after, would receive error when trying to launch applications: "KLauncher could not be reached via DCOP"
- After restarting X and rebooting, could not log in to KDE (as described above).
This happened on two machines (one desktop, one laptop). It is still possible to log in to a tty (Ctrl+Alt+F1, etc), just not into KDE.
If anyone knows how to obtain a list of recently updated packages (through aptitude or apt-get), please let me know so I can provide further details.
I have solved the problem by uninstalling the packages pack-kde- en pack-kde- en-base
