Here is a patch. Incorporates the new upstream release plus some other small changes. The only problem may be that line 6 of constants.py had to be edited for it to build (contained non-ascii character) and didnt know what to do with it so just edited it.

purrr (0.8.0-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #195806)
  * constants.py: Edited line 6 to stop non-ascii char error while building
  * debian/control:
    - Bump Debian standards version
    - Add Homepage field

The link on http://mathrick.org/software/0.8/purrr.html points to a file named purrr-0.8-PRERELEASE-MAY_EAT_FILES.tgz . Am I missing some other link that would point to another, stable version of purrr ? Otherwise, I wouldn't upload the package, given the name of the tarball.

Cheers

I interpret these messages as warnings, trying to "cover the authors back" and pre-release as being anything < 1.0. The changelog for this version (attached) indicates that it is actually *much* safer to use than the current version in the archives, which is from almost a year ago.

Sorry Daniel. Completely forgot which bug this was.

I have spoken to Maciej Katafiasz <email address hidden>, the upstream author about this.

"I'm really not terribly happy about people using 0.5, which I know to
be dangerous, but OTOH, I didn't want to release 0.8 as is, when I
knew it to be internally ugly and still not thoroughly tested, even if
massively improved. I suppose I should look into finally releasing it
(after the refactoring, sigh), but time and other constraints made me
mostly forget it. I'll look into doing it over the course of the next
few weeks, I'd appreciate if you pinged me in two weeks or so, just in
case I forgot again :)"

I will email him tonight to see if he is any closer to a 0.8.0 full release that we could hopefully get into Hardy (though it is a little late now insnt it?)

Ask him what the final blockers on his side are and what we should watch out for.

I have sent a couple of mails upstream recently, but havent received any replies for >3 months. What should happen with this bug now?

I think it's fine to get it into intrepid, I just think that the version number should have something about "prerelease" in it, so 0.8~prerelease<....> is less than 0.8-0ubuntu1 we can ship at some point. Let's get it tested in intrepid and then see if we backport it to Hardy.

Thanks dholbach. Here is a 0.8.0~prerelease version. Also, I noticed i made an inline change to constants.py so i have changed that into a patch. It builds fine in an Intrepid pbuilder.

Can you change it to 'intrepid' - also it seems to be 0.8 instead of 0.8.0.
