Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Kubuntu 18.04 LTS has reached it's end-of-life (see https://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-18-04-lts-bionic-beaver-reaches-end-of-kubuntu-support/)

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in.

I've marked this report "Incomplete". Please re-test it on a supported release (ideally Kubuntu jammy or what will be released as 22.04) to see if it re-occurs, and re-file the report on a supported release.

If you believe I'm in error, you can leave a comment stating why, and return the status to "New". Thank you for helping make Ubuntu/Kubuntu better.

Oh, maybe should be about different package that is related to apport. That is in 32-bit last Kubuntu 18.04.5 so this is last OS for 32-bit computers. Needs a fix. No matter what version. If have fix in other, then needs backport before 18.04.6 is made to work out of box in each setting in ubuntu main source list supported updates.

Personally I'd recommend Debian for 32-bit machines, if you're unhappy with the support 32-bit Ubuntu has. Yes Ubuntu is still supported with the GNOME desktop, but flavors are now all EOL.

If your hardware is updated & using uEFI boot; you may discover you cannot re-install Kubuntu 18.04.5 or other flavor media; as keys for 18.04.5 & earlier media are no longer valid; which is the reason for 18.04.6 media was created (https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2021/09/17/ubuntu-18-04-6-lts-released/), where you'll discover no flavor was involved as they were all EOL. This issue will not impact most i386/32-bit hardware, but it's best not to check beforehand.

Yes a number of us still use 18.04 with 32-bit hardware; but I used the same hardware I QA-tested Ubuntu flavors with (up to Aug-2020 as 18.10 & 19.04 had i386 media plus re-spins of 18.04) for testing Debian releases and it was mostly equal (one very slow box did better with Lubuntu for some reason).

I very much doubt bug reports on 18.04 'universe' packages will get attention before closure in April-2023 (but hey, it's still possible)

Our team is much too small to support EOL releases. Sorry.
