I'm running Ubuntu 21.10 on a laptop
Ubuntu-settings is V 21.10.4
Disabling the touchpad on my new laptop has no effect.
The only way to disable the touchpad was to install Touchpad-indicator

To try something else I uninstalled touchpad-indicator and not the Settings for the touchpad work as expected
