Bug Description

Comparison of

https://packages.ubuntu.com/impish/amd64/ayatana-indicator-application/filelist

and

https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/amd64/ayatana-indicator-application/filelist

shows that package on Jammy have wrongly located libayatana-application.so and ayatana-indicator-application.service .

Both should be located as they were in Impish:

/usr/lib/ayatana-indicators3/7/libayatana-application.so
/usr/lib/systemd/user/ayatana-indicator-application.service

The above problem causes indicator breakage and MATE Panel layouts loss in live and installed systems.

This results in "No Indicators" appearing on the panel.

Temporary workaround is as follows:

```
sudo mv /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ayatana-indicators3/7/libayatana-application.so /usr/lib/ayatana-indicators3/7/libayatana-application.so
sudo mv /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/systemd/user/ayatana-indicator-application.service /usr/lib/systemd/user/ayatana-indicator-application.service
```

This issue impacts me too... I was just ultra-slow to recognize the issue.

I saw the issue as difficulty connecting to wifi & raised it in https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/non-internet-connected-devices-first-run/24939/ when I should have tagged this bug report instead.

On file level it is really remains wrong on jammy

the

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ayatana-indicators3/7/libayatana-application.so

should be located at

/usr/lib/ayatana-indicators3/7/libayatana-application.so

My no.7 message was written for Ubuntu MATE uptodate. It has indicators in place with current build too.

Indicators on Xubuntu are really broken.

We (Ubuntu Budgie) had this issue with the new x86_64-linux-gnu path - our budgie-indicator-applet needed a no change rebuild to pick up the new path i.e. the path is set at build time - it isn't dynamic.

So all is currently well in UB. If it is changed back to /usr/lib/ayatana... then we will need to-do another similar rebuild exercise.
