Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-8-generic

I've just updated from Gutsy to Hardy Alpha 4 and noticed my sound no longer works properly. I used to have (among others) PCM, Front and Surround. PCM is the main controls, Front handles my built-in (laptop) speakers and Surround my green sound out jack. Now, Surround is missing and Front controls both the built-in and external speakers.
I've used the standard sound control to check, as well as alsamixer and gnome-alsamixer. They all give the same result.

sudo dpkg -i linux-ubuntu-modules-$(uname -r)
dpkg: fout bij afhandelen van linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-8-generic (--install):
kan archief niet benaderen: Bestand of map bestaat niet (* File or folder doesn't exist *)
Fouten gevonden tijdens behandelen van: (* Mistakes encountered while processing *)

Care to verify this is still an issue with the latest linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12? Thanks.

This is still an issue yes. Surround isn't available and Front controls both built-in and external (green jack) speakers.

Hi Alfredo,

It unfortunately appears this bug did not get resolved during the Hardy development cycle. For the upcoming Intrepid Ibex release the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux kernel source package. Therefore moving forward any bugs which would have been reported against linux-ubuntu-modules should now be reported against linux. I'm going to move this bug forward to the 'linux' kernel source package. It would be helpful if you could test the most recent Intrepid Ibex Alpha release - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing and verify this is still and issue. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Hmm, I was certain I had already replied to this report...

Well the "issue" still remains, namely that Front controls both the laptop speakers and green stereo jack. However, this is no longer an issue (for me) because Ubuntu finally turns off the laptop speakers when I insert a device into the green jack. So I guess you can consider this Resolved.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
