Bug Description

There was a firmware upgrade available this morning that I did. After that when I boot up my computer I noticed it was getting very hot. I then realized that the fan was no longer blowing. I don't remember exactly what the upgrade notes said but I recall it had something to do with either fan or CPU. The fan works before the OS starts but once the computer starts to boot the fan stops blowing even if the computer is very hot (Over 90 degrees Celsius).

Possible confounding factors:
My boot partition was too small and I was getting problems doing installations. I've since reinstalled to increase the size.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 21.10
Release: 21.10

2) Not sure which package. Occurred after a firmware upgrade I installed this morning.

3) I expect the fan to blow like I used to (I think it was always on but for sure it would come on if the temperature went up)

4) The fan does not come on even if the CPU temp goes over 90 degrees Celsius.

Is there a work around I can use in the meanwhile to maybe set the fan speed manually?

I got the problem resolved. I went to Lenovo's Website:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p15s-gen-2-type-20w6-20w7/20w6/20w6001nus/downloads/driver-list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI

And got the firmware from there (version 1.46). It had two files in it. 'N34ET46W.cab' said it was already installed and 'ThinkPad-EmbeddedControllerFirmware-1.37.cab' installed and when it booted back up the fan was working again.
