Bug Description

Hi,
I know the Gnome Shell extension "Desktop Icons" cause much irrational behavior under Ubuntu 20.04.

But, coping some file on the ubuntu's desktop (right click -> copy) and then paste in any other folder used to work perfectly so far.

I've noticed that since yesterday, this feature isn't functional anymore.

I can copy via right click easily, but when it comes to paste the file/folder, the paste option is unavailable (grayed out).

Desktop permissions: drwxrwxrwx

I know https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/focal/+bug/1852183 bug and I think my ubuntu's strange behavior deserve a new bug.

Itai

I just check the old version of gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons, I still could reproduce this issue, so it's not regression update in 20.04.0-3~0ubuntu20.04.6 at least. I will check the update history and code to find the root cause.

If it's pre-existing (or intermittent) then we should probably group it with bug 1948008.

@Itai,
 Could you help check which is the good version of gnome-shell and gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons? From the last time it worked, and check the /var/log/apt/history.log

 I met an issue of drag and drop a file one year ago, I thought it should be the same root cause, the mutter didn't support this kind of operation.

I clear the log file from time to time, so 'grep gnome' command result nothing for me.

Anyway, I believe as mentioned in the link you sent that this is the version of the gnome-shell:
gnome-shell 3.36.3-1ubuntu1~20.04.2

For the gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons I'm not sure but now I have
gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons 20.04.0-3~ubuntu20.04.6
Is there anyway of downgrading this?
