System freezes after right clicking on a dock icon

The problem can be reproduced as follow in ubuntu 21.10:
- run jedit (which was insalled with sudo apt install jedit)
- jedit starts and is working fine, but a right click on its icon in the dock freezes the system
- it is still possible to log into the system using ssh and I noticed that gnome-shell is using 100% of a CPU.
- the system does not recover without shutting it down and restarting it
- the problem could be reproduced on a lenovo laptop as well as in a VM
