Bug Description

Binary package hint: kooka

I tried to run ocrad in kooka, it stalls.

From the command line I called ocrad with the image in PNM format, it works. (The output is not correct, but that's a point on the character recognition on cursive letters, not the behaviour of the program.)

I scanned the front page of a modem manual. in kooka, my prefered image output format is PNG. I called "Image » OCR Image...". Then Started the OCR with the Start button in the Dialog Box. it stalls.

Ocrad supports PNM format only. Does the image format have an influence?

Could you please add the output when running kooka from the command line, as well as /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages

Clarification. I ran ocrad from a shell. Not form within a shell within kooka. Form the shell it works.

When I run ocrad from within Kooka's userinterface, it stalls.

The test image is joined to the reply.

The command line output is following.

-----------------------------------------------------
At the shell I typed:
drapeaub@silex:~$ ocrad --charset=iso-8859-15 Pictures/kscan_0004.pnm

Kooka was removed from KDE 4, so I'll mark this bug as won't fix. I am sure a better application, filling the gap of a scan application will appear soon and have this issue fixed.

Eitherway I also want to let you know that we, the Kubuntu team, really appreciate that you spent time to create this bug :-)

Waiting for a better application. Meanwhile Kooka is still available on Ubuntu. If Kooka is a dead project, why not remove it since they are no longer developing/fixing bugs.

It is not anymore in Kubuntu 8.10

Besides, skanlite is the current state-of-art of scanning in KDE (i.e. pretty new, missing billions of features but a lot potential).
