Bug Description

i open a second bug report because i have already freeze problem after the installation of nvidia drivers and reboot.
Freeze become generally when i am using firefox and visioning a video with youtube.
I specify that since the last bug report, i re install ubuntu with official .iso without other package non official.
To create the report, i have to connect to the PC from another one with ssh.
When i use ubuntu-bug, it is not possible to join nvidia-bug-report because the application dont give me the hand to finish the report.
When i try to execute nvidia-bug-report, i have the same thing.

To use the PC, i have to use nouveau drivers and intel Xe GPU with poor performances ...

Thanks for help.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

Thank you for this answer.
1. no files found into /var/crash directory
2. no links in the URL https://errors.ubun....
3. i repeat the freeze, but there is no changes (no /var/crash, no URL).

To be clear, i push a pdf with the description of how to reproduce the bug and some new information.

If you can still move the mouse after the crash then it's likely gnome-shell that crashed, not Xorg.

Next time the problem happens, please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here.

Thanks. It appears to be a bug in the Nvidia driver, and a freeze rather than a crash.

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

The next step is to try uninstalling the Nvidia 470 driver and install 460 instead, using the 'Additional Drivers' app or:

  sudo apt remove nvidia-driver-470
  sudo apt install nvidia-driver-460

Hello,

Since the last message, i have :
- Install KDE Desktop
- Modify parameters Xrender, OpenGL2.0, OpenGL3.0
- Try to install Nvidia drivers 470, NVIDIA drivers 460

Unfortunately, I encounter always the freeze of the screen in each configuration and i have to reboot my pc to get back the hand (or connect with ssh from an other pc to do a reboot).

I'm joining 3 reports of breakdown, two with nvidia drivers 460 and one with nvidia drivers version 470. (with command : journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt)

Thank you for help

End off this bug !!!
I have installed nvidia-driver-470 tested and updated by ubuntu, and the bug disappear !!
I note that the version of the nvidia driver passed from 470.62 to 470.82, is it the reason why it works now ? i don't know.
Thanks to the developer who have done the necessary :-)
Have a good day.
