Bug Description

open-vm-tools 11.3.5 has been released on Sept 23, 2021 containing changes for:

  - A configurable logging capability has been added to the network script.
  - The hgfsmounter (mount.vmhgfs) command has been removed from open-vm-tools.

See: https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/releases/tag/stable-11.3.5

Release Notes are available at: https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/blob/stable-11.3.5/ReleaseNotes.md

The granular changes that have gone into the 11.3.5 release are in the ChangeLog at https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/blob/stable-11.3.5/open-vm-tools/ChangeLog

With the removal of the hgfsmounter (mount.vmhgfs) command from the open-m-tools, packaging changes may be needed in the debian/rules file.

Thanks for the FYI John, I linked the related Debian bug that you also opened.
From the Ubuntu side this will have to wait until the development of 22.04 opens up.

Might I ask for the planned timelines of 11.4.0 and 11.4.5 to see how they eventually align with overall 22.04?

FYI Trying to get 11.3.5 + the compat for fuse3 in 1935665 done now.
That should be stable and fine for now.
Afterwards we can have a look if 12.0.0 (more changes) still fits in well.

I'm marking this a dup to 1946836 for tracking things in just one place.
