Bug Description

In the current (Sept 24) beta of U21.10, Gnome, an app that uses the systray and works fine in previous versions of Ubuntu, has its systray menu popup in (apparently) random places. Much like in the early days of Wayland.

This app, tomboy-ng, uses the traditional system tray when X reports it is available and, if not, uses libappindicator3. However, in the case of U21.10beta, X says it can do it but fails. This app is in the Ubuntu repository.

Bit sad really, as the author of tomboy-ng, Ubuntu has always been my recommendation because it listens to users about things like the SysTray. I have a workaround, users can pass an env variable (eg) LAZUSEAPPIND=YES but end users hate that sort of stuff.

So, please fix ubuntu-appindicators or stop whatever is left of X from claiming it can help when it cannot.

Thanks

David Bannon
