Only after I look around on the "configure kmail" window I was able to enable it \
again (Appearance -> Message List -> Show Quick Search But that is not so easy or \
fast to dis/enable.

I do not observe this bug either on an up to date hardy install or on a clean up to date Intrepid alpha6 system.

Does this still occur for you or can we close this report?

Richard I've updated the Subject of this bug to reflect it true nature.
The search bar is available, but not the menu shortcut to turn it in/visible as it used to be on older versions.

Both 3.x and 4.x have this behaviour.

This is really an upstream problem and it's possible that it's intended to be that way. Please report this at http://bugs.kde.org and link the report here so we can track the outcome.

thanks

FYI with the new KDE4.2 version new icons show up in front of the QuickSearch bar, and even Settings->Configure KMail->Appearance->Message List option is now gone.
